7 Things to Know Before You Go to Kuali Days

December 1, 2019

Whether 2020 is your first year attending Kuali Days or your 10th, this year promises to be different than any other Kuali Days. For starters, this year, the conference will be held in Utah, just outside of Park City, in February. To help you prepare, here are some tips before you arrive:

1. Plan to network, network, network!

Year after year, we hear back from attendees that the best part about Kuali Days is the lasting connections made during the conference. Take advantage of being in a room full of people who know exactly what you do! Strike up conversations with the people around you. You may be surprised by how much you have in common when it comes to your work.

If you wouldn’t classify yourself as a social butterfly, plan ahead. For me, long days socializing make me tired, so I’ll be stocking up on my soda of choice. For others, this may mean making a plan to connect with at least one person you don’t know each day.

Networking is the best way to take advantage of this conference, so do everything in your power to be effective!

2. Create your conference schedule ahead of time

Decide which sessions you’ll be attending before you’re on your way to Utah. Why? In full disclosure, it will help our planning committee determine how big each room needs to be. Also, deciding beforehand will give you time to see the whole agenda, not just your track. (You can attend sessions outside of your track!) And, you can connect with other attendees in your track about which sessions they’re going to attend from other tracks.

How to add sessions to your agenda: Download the app here, then press “Find My Event” if you aren’t already directed to the Kuali Days 2020 page. Then, click on “Agenda” in the navigation bar. Here you can browse the full agenda and your personal agenda. To add sessions to your agenda, click on any given session then press “Add to My Agenda.” This session will now appear in the “My Agenda” view.

3. Come with a question

During the conference, Kuali’s staff will be available to answer questions. You can connect with our engineers on a technical query you have, our marketing group to discuss a joint speaking activity, and our UX designers for all things user experience.

4. Stop by the Design Lab!

At Kuali Days, you have the unique experience to see and speak with our UX designers in person. Be sure to stop by the design lab and ask about your product. Our designers may ask for your opinion on something they’re currently working on!

5. Make dinner plans

Attendees are responsible for their own dinner, so make plans ahead of time! Check out this list of local restaurants to try when you’re in town. Plus, we suggest you venture out to Park City (a 30-minute ride away) at least once during the week. It’s a beautiful mountain town that hosts the Sundance Film Festival every year.

6. Pack layers!

Utah in February is cold. Fortunately, if snow isn’t your thing, you won’t have to spend much time outside, but we suggest you take a look at this packing list. Also, be sure to check the forecast before you arrive!

7. Participate in after-hours activities.

We know it can be tempting, after a long day of learning and networking, to hang out in your hotel room after dinner. But, to make the most of the event, we suggest that you attend the evening activities. To find out what they are, download the Whova app where attendees and Kuali employees will be coordinating impromptu activities like game night, a musical jam session, and more.

Our Kuali team can’t wait to see you in Utah next month! We wish you safe travels!
