Overview
The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), located in Jackson, is the state’s only academic health science center. UMMC includes six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies and pharmacy. The School of Pharmacy is headquartered on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford. With growing research administration needs, UMMC needed a more effective electronic research administration solution.
Challenges
With the appointment of Dr. Richard Summers, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, the research enterprise at UMMC was undergoing a period of rapid growth and expansion. Their former solution, a combination of paper-based processes and legacy eRA software, was not meeting their needs for efficiency, automation, and a single integrated solution for proposal, award, and compliance management. In addition, UMMC needed better reporting for executives, department heads, and principal investigators (PIs).
Solution
The search for a better solution led UMMC to select Kuali Research. Built on open source, community-developed software, Kuali Research provides UMMC enhanced reporting, streamlined proposal tracking, and compliance management. It also reduced the burden on Information Technology (IT) services with its cloud-based, pre-configured deployment.
