Meet Midway, UT
The upcoming Kuali Days, slated for February 18-22, 2020, will take place in Midway, Utah. Nestled in the area known as the Wasatch Back in the Wasatch Mountain range of the Rocky Mountains, Midway is a quaint and quiet mountain town despite being just minutes away from metropolitan areas.
We know that many of you are not very familiar with Midway, and even Utah as a whole.
Here’s a bit about Midway as you prepare for Kuali Days.
In the 1860s and ’70s, a large number of families from Switzerland settled here, and Midway was officially incorporated in 1891. That Swiss heritage is still evident in some of the area’s architecture along with Swiss Days, an annual city festival that takes place over Labor Day weekend each year.
Today, Midway has a population of about 5,000.
Soldier Hollow, an area for winter activities such as snow shoeing, tubing, and cross-country skiing, was a site for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. In nearby Park City, the Utah Olympic Park offers zip lines, bobsled, and other attractions and tours.
There are several natural geothermal springs, which were historically used by local miners after long weeks of digging. The Crater, operated by the Homestead, is located just across the street from the Zermatt, and it offers a unique experience to swim in a natural hot spring in an above-ground naturally formed cave.
There are beautiful views of Mount Timpanogos, a peak that reaches over 11,000 feet. This mountain is also home to a year-round glacier, and the Timpanogos Cave, which offers summertime walk-through tours.
Just because Kuali Days is happening in the winter, doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities for outdoor activities.
Utah is known for the “Best snow on Earth.” For skiers and snowboarders, that means it makes for fluffy powder and soft groomed trails. There are nearby downhill ski resorts, as well as state-of-the-art cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing trails.
For those more interested in fireplaces and hot drinks, there’s definitely no shortage of warm places to cozy up and enjoy the spectacular views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Nearby Park City also offers world-class dining along its Historic Main Street, home to the Sundance Film Festival. And speaking of Sundance, Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort is also nearby, with skiing and dining available.
We hope to see you at the upcoming Kuali Days in February. Registration coming soon!
